Elon Musk Starlink could offer the cheapest broadband service in India | Starlink satellite internet price ?

Starlink is planning to start its internet service in India. The SpaceX-owned satellite internet provider Starlink is offering internet service in India at a lower price than international markets. This satellite internet service is in the beta testing stage and offers satellite internet in selected cities. The company has started taking pre-bookings for the service in India with a deposit amount of $99  or Rs 7400/- Approx. and received good numbers of interested users in India.

Starlink satellite internet price in India

Starlink India Director Sanjay Bhargava was give an interview to a publication and clearly mention that “ the service was expensive and passing on the costs to the customers would make it unaffordable ”.  Elon Musk-led Starlink will currently focus on interior areas of India, where the internet is not available yet. Starlink’s satellite internet price will be cheaper than other broadband providers. The company wants to change the broadband  Internet market by providing both better pricing and internet access.

Starlink will provide a dish satellite, a receiver, a router, connecting cable, a power cable, and all the equipment required for setting it up after a  deposit of INR 7,400 or $99. The company said that, the internet speeds are said to be in the range of 50Mbps  to 150Mbps in the beta testing phase, and speed will be touched to 1 GBPS after completion of testing or when more satellites are added to the lower orbit of the earth. The exact subscription plan will be live after the commercial rollout.

Starlink satellite India launch 

However, The company aims to commercially roll out satellite internet in India by the second half of 2022. Space X is planning to make a partnership with Reliance Jio and Vodafone-iDea for reaching the interior part of India.

According to Starlink’s website, the Satelite beta service is currently available in Ahmedabad, Tadepalligudem, and Indore. Company also planning to distribute 20 numbers of the free satellite dishes to the Delhi schools and 80 numbers of satellite dishes will be distributed to rural areas around Delhi.

Wrapping Up

Space X  owned Starlink will directly compete with telecom service providers like Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea. Recently the company has to obtain the necessary licenses before offering any service from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). 

Elon musk also praise India Starlink director Mr.Sanjay Bhargav he mentioned that “he deserves a lot of credit for making X/PayPal succeed. Now helping SpaceX serve rural communities in India. Much respect.”
