Odisha Electric Vehicle Rule 2021
EV Tax Exemption: Electric vehicle markets are growing rapidly and Odisha is the first state to exempt 100% Electric vehicle registration fees and Motor vehicle tax. Odisha state allows the exemptions till 2025 under the Odisha Motor Vehicles Taxation Act. Recently Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik declare exemptions to promote Electric vehicle sell.
Honorable Chief Minister of Odisha also shares this news via his Twitter handle “ In a major boost to electronic vehicles (EV) in #Odisha, the State Govt has announced 100% exemption on Motor Vehicle Tax & Registration Fees for EVs. This is applicable till Dec 31, 2025 for all types of Battery Operated Vehicles & will help achieve sustainable development.”
Electric Vehicle Tax Exemption: The Odisha state’s commerce and transport department also share this news in their Twitter handle “Using the powers conferred by clause (ii) of sub-section (1) of section 15 of the Odisha Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1975, the state government has allowed a 100% exemption on Motor Vehicle Tax and Registration Fees for EVs”
State Government also provides lots of benefits to electric vehicle manufactures, Battery manufacturers, sellers of EV’s and setting up charging stations for electric vehicles under the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy. Odisha EV Tax Exemptions will help residents of Odisha to adopt electric vehicles.

Charging Stations in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar Municipal corporation (BMC) also taking the initiative for setting up charging stations in different locations of Bhubaneswar. As the state administration aims to encourage to buying EVs. Odisha Electric Vehicles act will be more beneficial for the manufacturer as well as the customer.
State government officials had earlier last month said that seven charging stations will be installed in Bhubaneswar soon, as the administration aims to have set up more charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
On a priority basis, BMC will choose the most crowded locations in Bhubaneswar city. In the first phase charging station will be set up in malls, parking lots, hotels, residential complexes, workplaces, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, and SUM Hospital.

Odisha Electric Vehicle Tax Exemption
Odisha Electric Vehicle Tax Exemption rule provide subsidy from the Odisha Government on purchase of Two-wheeler, Three-wheeler, and Four-wheeler EV purchase,
- Two-wheeler – Maximum subsidy is Rs 5,000
- Three-wheeler- Maximum subsidy is Rs 10,000
- Four-wheeler – Maximum subsidy is Rs 50,000

Conclusion
Recently many electric vehicle manufacturers like OLA Electric, Ather, Simple Energy have entered the Indian EV markets. Due to the daily price increase of Petrol and Diesel Electric vehicles more preferable. Tax exemptions fee waiver on electric vehicles is a bold move of the Odisha Government to encourage EV sell.
